A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was shot at a Crown Heights community center on Tuesday evening.
According to police, the teen was shot in the torso at the Major R. Owens Health and Community Wellness Center on Bedford Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. The victim and the gunman were reportedly arguing in the lobby when the shooter fired his weapon.
The teen — whose identity has not been released — was brought to NYC Health+Hospitals/Kings County, where he was in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.
Cops said the gunman fled the scene after the shooting, and no arrests have been made.
Shootings are down citywide and in the 71st Precinct, where the Aug. 15 incident took place, per NYPD data. In the 71st, there have been eight reported shooting incidents as of Aug. 13 — compared to 15 shootings in the same time period last year.
While the data looks good, the victim of Tuesday’s shooting was the third teen to be shot in the precinct in as many months – at the end of May, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were shot outside a Franklin Avenue deli.
