Cops charged a 17-year-old with murder in the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Midwood, according to police, who also arrested the suspect’s mother and charged her with obstructing the investigation.
The accused killer, David Lopez, turned himself into authorities on Tuesday afternoon in the company of a lawyer, and was charged on Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
Lopez is accused of stabbing 17-year-old Rohan Burke to death at approximately 4 p.m. on April 29, near the corner of Avenue M and E. 17th Street.
Paramedics rushed Burke, a student at Lafayette High School, to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition, where doctors pronounced him dead shortly after 1 a.m. the next morning, according to cops.
Lopez’s mother, 38-year-old Barbra Halloza, was charged with tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution, cops told this paper.
Police say further arrests are possible, as the investigation is ongoing.
