Despite the end of the writer’s strike and the return of our favorite television series, live theater is still booming in Brooklyn. From classics to the cutting edge, theaters across the borough are mounting exciting and innovative productions this season. TV shows will always have reruns, but catching these productions is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Beginning Saturday, Feb. 16, Williamsburg’s Brick Theater will welcome “Notes from Underground,” based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novel, for a month-long run. The theater bills the show as “a disgusting play,” and its Web site warns, “Limited and uncomfortable seating is available.” The show will run through March 22. On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Ridge Repertory Company will debut “From Broadway to Bay Ridge,” a six-night extravaganza directed by James Martinelli. Pitchers and catchers have reported to spring trainig, so it’s only fitting that on Thursday, Feb. 28, the Brooklyn College Theater Department will open its production of Richard Greenberg’s “Take Me Out,” the 2003 Tony-award-winning story of a star ballplayer who comes out to his colleagues and fans just as his team is about to enter the World Series.
