The Rockaway Artists Alliance (RAA) showcases two new groupings of more than 27 artists and their artworks in “To Our Idols” and “Bodies of Work.” Both shows are on view through April 3 in the sTudio 6 and sTudio 7 galleries at the Rockaway Center for the Arts (RoCA) at Fort Tilden in the Gateway National Recreation Area in Rockaway, Queens.
“Bodies of Work” explores the human body represented in all its phases, incarnations and views: clothed or unclothed, still or in motion, alone or in the context of groups, in any setting or background. In “To Our Idols,” Dina Kaliko quotes her photo subject, Albert Einstein. Lettered above her dual imaged portrait are the words “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” “To Our Idols” asks the question: who is it that fires our imaginations? Who inspires and shapes us? Who do we look up to most?
With depictions ranging from people, famous or not, to places to objects — contemporary, historical or fictional — each ‘Idol’ artist seeks the creative answers to these questions.
