This is not your Manhattanite’s Calexico.

Sure, our lesser-off brothers across the river have been enjoying the Mexican truck food for a few years, but last month’s opening of the first Calexico storefront in the Columbia Street Waterfront District means that Brooklynites get more than just burritos.

“This is the closest thing I’ve had to Mexican food in Brooklyn,” said Manuel Esquivel, a regular, said the other day.

“And he’s from Mexico!” cried chef Peter Oleyer, who owns the joint with the Vendley brothers of Southern California, who have been operating two food trucks so good, they won the Vendy Awards last year in DUMBO.

That was Brooklyn’s first taste of Calexico’s unbeatable carne asada burritos. But it won’t be the last.

Calexico [122 Union St. between Hicks and Columbia street in the Columbia Street Waterfront District, (718) 488-8226]. Closed Sundays and Mondays.
