Brooklyn’s top prosecutor charged Mill Basin twins with allegedly murdering their roommate, 35-year-old Carmine Carini Jr., whose tarp-wrapped body later washed up in the Mill Basin marina on Sept. 2.
It was a heinous murder, and the two deserve to be behind bars, said the District Attorney.
“This brutal murder and the calculated disposal of the body are truly disturbing,” said Eric Gonzalez. “We will now seek to hold them responsible for what they did.”
The 36-year-old brothers allegedly struck Carini in the head with a hammer inside their shared E. 64th Street home in Mill Basin sometime between Aug. 30 and Aug. 31. The twin brothers then dumped Carini’s body in the water, wrapped in blue tarp and weighed down with a cinder block, according to Gonzalez’s office.
Video footage captured the brothers casting the body into the bay, his office said.
The siblings fled to Indiana soon after allegedly executing their roommate, where local police ultimately cuffed them in a local Walmart after a high-speed chase. An Indiana county sheriff pulled the two over for tailgating, but they hit the gas and police chased them for 12 miles. Police recovered three hammers with traces of blood on them in the trunk of their car, an investigation found, according to Gonzalez’s office.
Authorities held the pair in Indiana on local charges until shipping them off to their native Brooklyn to be indicted for murder.
One of the brothers was held without bail for murder and tampering with physical evidence, while the other was held on $250,000 bail for hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence. They both must return to court on Feb. 9, and face up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
