Two Clones pitchers shutout Ironbirds

Cyclones 6

Aberdeen 0

July 12 in Aberdeen

Jaison Vilera held the Ironbirds scoreless for seven innings en route to the shutout win, striking out nine, and allowing three hits and only one walk.

Vilera, a righty from Venezuela, was helped by an impressive Cyclones offense, led by Walter Rasquin, who went three for five on the night, smacking two doubles, a single, and driving in a run.

Brooklyn took the lead in the second when Chandler Avant doubled to drive in Ross Adolph, who had tripled. Avant was then driven in on a single by Rasquin after he moved to third on a groundout, putting the Clones up 2–0.

Brooklyn scored again in the third and seventh before tacking on two more in the ninth when Brian Sharp hit an infield single with two outs to drive in Jose Brizuela and Wagner Lagrange, who had walked and singled, respectively.

And Mac Lozer pitched two innings of perfect relief, striking out four Ironbirds.

The Cyclones evened up Brooklyn’s record at 13–13, good enough for a second-place tie in the McNamara Division with the hated Staten Island Yankees, and three games behind the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Our boys hope to clinch the series tonight in Aberdeen at 7:05.
