Firefighters rescued an elderly couple as flames tore through the third floor of a Windsor Terrace apartment building on Tuesday morning.

The smoke eaters responded to a blaze in the building on Prospect Park West between 17th Street and Prospect Avenue at 11:35 am, and brought it under control by 12:11 pm, according to a Fire Department spokesman.

Responders transported two people to New York Methodist Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, the rep said.

Also rescued, but not spared a dousing, were a tabby cat and a chihuahua.
