Two Thumbs up for neighborhood lifesavers

Volunteer emergency rescue workers were delivered a tall salute for their life-saving work during an awards ceremony presented by the Flatlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps (FVAC).

Members of the volunteer emergency ambulance service were hailed with pins and plaques for their consecutive years of service as part of a tribute program held at Buckley’s Restaurant, Avenue S and Nostrand Avenue.

Among the honorees were: James Behan, Thomas Silagi and Robert Parisi, 30 years; Steve Solomonson, 29 years; Sal Caruso, 25 years; Ira Wallenstein, 10 years; and Peter Bojmal and Jason Geller, five years.

In addition, David Moskowitz was lauded as Crew Chief of the Year, and Shawn Dooley as Rookie of the Year.

The FVAC was established in 1975 to serve Flatlands and neighboring communities. It is located at 4623 Avenue N.
