Hej!
Bay Ridge morphed into the Land of the Midnight Sun, drawing mom, dad and the kids to merry-on with like-minded revelers during the Viking festival at Owl’s Head Park, May 15.
The area’s tribute to Norseland was a prelude to the next day’s Annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade along Fifth Avenue, featuring traditional arts and crafts, Scandinavian foods, re-enactors, plus an exhibit of a replica Viking ship.
This year’s headliner, a performance called “Touched by the Vikings,” had visitors clapping and toe-tapping along to music and dancing from countries that the exploring, warring, trading and pirating Vikings invaded during their reign of terror which colonized wide swaths of Europe from the late eighth to the early 11th centuries.
The annual festival is presented by the Scandinavian East Coast Museum.
