A milestone was reached when the “nation’s largest drugstore chain” opened shop in Sheepshead Bay with its 7000th store.
Walgreens celebrated its arrival at 2590 Coney Island Avenue, off Avenue W, with a day of community service, including free health screenings for shoppers and free flu shot vouchers for uninsured patrons. In addition, police officers from the 61st Precinct fingerprinted youngsters for identification purposes and distributed safety tips to parents.
The ribbon-cutting, attended by area dignitaries, was accompanied by a donation ceremony during which Walgreens’ President and CEO Greg Wasson donated $7,000 to Lenny’s Lighthouse, a charity for people with disabilities.
The new store is Walgreens 20th in Brooklyn, and its 67th across the five boroughs.
