Call it a “We survived Hurricane Irene” party.

Hundreds of residents from MeadowWood at Gateway condo complex on Flatlands Avenue and Jerome Street flocked to the East Campus Courtyard on Sept. 10 for games, food and some good old-fashioned companionship from a special Family Day that the hurricane-turned-tropical-storm had postponed — twice.

Organizers said the Family Day festivities were supposed to take place on Aug. 27. In the event of foul weather, it was supposed to take place the next day.

But Hurricane Irene put a crimp in all of their plans, forcing the Family Day to be held on Saturday.

Residents took everything in stride as kids tackled inflatable super slides, games and rides organizers had prepared for them, while adults gobbled up hamburgers, hotdogs and other barbecue delights.

But they didn’t only feed their stomachs. They also fed their souls as they chatted with family and neighbors, both new and old.
