Wildman’s eating tour returns to Prospect Park

Naturalist “Wildman” Steve Brill will lead a foraging tour of Prospect Park, beginning at the Grand Army Plaza entrance, 11:45 a.m., March 27.

Cold-weather greens abound throughout the park. Find goutweed, which tastes like parsley, celery, and carrots; and chickweed, which tastes like corn-on-the-cob. Field garlic leaves are best through April. You’ll also be finding garlic mustard.

The first tiny leaves of wild parsnips, growing alongside the skating rink, will be available as will the abundant, green, fragrant twigs of sassafras saplings.

The four-hour walking tour has a suggested donation of $15; $10 for a child under 12. Call 914-835-2153 at least 24 hours in advance to reserve a place. For “Wildman’s” 2010 tour calendar and information, visit www.wildmanstevebrill.com.
