Talk about a Chateau Margeaux!
The winner of the search for the Next Great Wine Bottle Artist is Margeaux Walter.
The Williamsburg-based winery Brooklyn Oenology announced last Thursday that Walter’s “Sunday Afternoon” was chosen out of six finalists to appear as the label for the Williamsburg wine maker’s 2010 Sauvignon Blanc.
“I’m so excited about this,” said Walter. “I’m happy my work is going to be more accessible to people.”
“Sunday Afternoon” is a digital print of a crowed park that has bright pastel colors illuminating a summer’s day — similar to artist George Seurat’s piece with the same title. Walter thought it would be perfect for the crisp white wine, with its citrus notes.
“Considering it is a summer wine, I thought a photo of a Sunday afternoon in Central Park would work well,” said the artist.
Vintner Alie Shaper agrees.
“The artwork absolutely matches well with the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc,” said Shaper. “It captures the carefree feeling of the warm months.”
Walter will have her label distributed all over the country and will also get a solo show at the winery, a popular place to drink great wine and nosh picnic-style victuals.
