Woman beaten for purse

Popped for purse

A thief punched a 27-year-old woman in the nose during a purse grab on April 28.

Police said that the woman was on Coney Island Avenue between Avenues X and Y at 10:50 am when the thief crept up and hit her.

He then scooped up the woman’s purse and ran off, but didn’t get far.

Cops rounded up the thief, identified as East Flatbush resident Nearcel Cineus, a short time later, charging him with robbery.

Lunch room lunacy

A lunch-room brawl in Sheepshead Bay High School on April 29 led to three arrests.

Police said that the fisticuffs erupted in the Avenue X school at 11 am when one of the teens threw a cup of water in another teen’s face.

When the victim threw a punch, the water-thrower and his two friends pounded him, leaving the teen with a smattering of injuries.

The three were charged with assault as the victim was taken to Kings County Hospital for treatment.

Close but no entry

Cops were called to an address on East 28th Street in Sheepshead Bay on April 27 after a 19-year-old tried to break inside.

A woman told police that she was inside a home between Avenues W and X at 1 pm when she saw a thief trying to break in.

The homeowner called 911 and cops rounded up and arrested Rafael Matayev, who by then had already given up his attempt, police said.

Safe raided

Over $3,500 was removed from a safe inside a Nostrand Avenue apartment on April 28.

The tenant said that she went to a doctor’s appointment at 12:30 pm. She returned about three hours later to discover that someone had forced open a bedroom window that led to a fire escape.

She then learned that the conniving cat burglar swiped the safe, which contained the cash as well as some checks, jewelry and a Tony Hawk limited SideKick cell phone.

Booze muscles

A 49-year-old woman was arrested on April 30 after she fought off a Coney Island liquor store employee who caught her shoplifting.

Police said that Zlata Bedrin was inside I&M Liquors on Neptune Avenue between West 5th and West 6th streets at 6:50 pm when the clerk accused her of swiping a bottle of cognac.

When the employee tried to stop her from leaving the store with the bottle, Bedrin allegedly punched the clerk in the face, leaving him with a slight injury.

Cops from the 60th Precinct took Bedrin into custody without incident, charging her with assault in the third degree, attempted petit larceny, menacing and harassment.

Rogaine raid

It was a hairy situation at a Brighton Beach Avenue Walgreens between Coney Island Avenue and Brighton 7th Street on April 30 after a 25-year-old thief tried to swipe several bottles of Rogaine from store shelves.

Police allege that Jerry Jeudy tried to slip out of the store with seven bottles of the hair growth formula.

When a worker stopped him and ordered him to the back of the store, Jeudy tackled the employee, leaving him with a scratch to his right arm during the ensuing struggle.

Responding officers took Jeudy into custody, charging him with robbery in the third degree, menacing and harassment.

Held down and robbed

Two thugs mugged a 79-year-old man on West 33rd Street in Coney Island on April 17.

Police said that the perps followed the senior into the lobby of the building between Mermaid and Surf avenues at 1:45 pm.

They then held him down and took his wallet.

Cops were still looking for the two heartless thugs as this paper went to press.

Bonnie and Clyde sought

A callous couple mugged a 45-year-old man as he walked through Sheepshead Bay on April 21.

The victim told police that he was nearing the corner of Avenue Y and Batchelder Street at 9:25 pm when a black male and a Hispanic female grabbed him and threw him to the ground.

The duo punched and kicked the victim as they emptied his pockets of $500, leaving the man with some bruises to his face, police said.

Cops were still looking for the couple as this paper went to press.
