A free tennis program, funded by Councilman Vincent Gentile, kicked off in Bensonhurst, and there’s still time to sign up. Gentile urges students between six and 18 to take advantage of the program this summer.
“This program is free and keeps our children healthy and busy,” Gentile said. “Most important, it’s a blast. If anyone wants to learn how to play tennis, make new friends or stay fit this summer, this program is the way to go.”
The New York Junior Tennis League is the largest tennis- and education-themed community organization in the United States, offering comprehensive school- and community-based programs throughout New York City’s five boroughs and serving more than 120,000 youths.
This year, Gentile secured $6,000 dollars for local programs run by the New York Junior Tennis League. The summer program will run now through August 27 at PS 186, 7601 19th Avenue.
Participants will be divided into groups according to their age or skill level, and will be supervised by trained coaches in tennis instruction and match play. Along with developing students’ tennis skills, this summer program will stress character development and positive life experiences.
This program will run Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Enrollment for the program is on-site — just visit PS 186 during the program’s hours of operation to sign up.
