Dog gone shame

A thieving energy company employee heisted a pooch from a Rodney Street apartment on March 6, cops said.

The duplicitous door-to-door salesman, who according to police reports worked for the gas company IDT, rang the bell at around 1 pm.

When the victim answered the door, his silver-haired toy Yorkshire terrier ran into the hallway.

The resident dismissed the sales rep, but when salesman left, the 5-year-old dog disappeared. Witnesses spotted the suspect struggling to conceal a bulge under his jacket as he exited the apartment building, which is between South Fourth and South Fifth streets.

Door-ringers for IDT have become a notorious presence in the South Slope and other neighborhoods as they have fanned out and allegedly scammed people into switching to their service. Their tactics have been widely documented by neighborhood blogs, such as the late great Gowanus Lounge.

Junk food

Thieves snatched a 35-year-old woman’s wallet as she dined at the classy Broadway eatery Dressler on March 13 — and used her credit cards to buy fast food, police said.

The crooks pilfered the victim’s purse between 9:30 pm and 12:30 am and fled with her credit cards and a driver’s license. Once the pickpockets escaped from the fancy restaurant, which is between Bedford and Driggs avenue in hardly fancy South Williamsburg, they purchased $40 of fast food and a $40 Metrocard.

Varet violence

Cops nabbed three teenaged thugs suspected of roughhousing a 47-year-old when he refused to turn over his wallet on March 15.

The crooks demanded money from the victim at he walked down Varet Street between Bushwick Avenue and White Street at around 5:50 pm.

When the victim declined to fork over his cash, the teens punched him in the face and snatched his Blackberry phone.

Police apprehended the alleged thieves later that evening.

Penn St. perp

Crooks heisted $260 from the kitchen cabinet of a Penn Street apartment overnight on March 13, while the victim was upstairs.

The thieves climbed through a rear window to get into the apartment, which is between Bedford and Lee avenues, at some time between 11:30 pm and 9 am.

Once inside, the crooks grabbed the cash from the kitchen and fled through the front door.

Deliverance

Cops locked up a delivery driver suspected of pocketing the cash from his routes.

Police nabbed a 24-year-old worker suspected of making off with $2,400 of company cash from a Gardner Avenue beer delivery company between January and March.

Workers at the business, which is based between Stagg and Meadow streets, told police that the same suspect was suspected of committing a similar crime about a year and a half ago.

Electronics snatched

Crooks heisted costly electronics from a South First Street apartment on March 13, while the resident was at work.

The thieves broke in between 2 pm and 5 pm and grabbed two laptops, a Treo cellphone, and a charger before fleeing from the apartment, which is between Berry Street and Bedford Avenue.
