Care Bears on Fire — on Letterman!

The Brooklyn Paper

Everybody’s — or at least every middle-aged editor with two kids’ — favorite band, Care Bears on Fire, rocked on “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Wednesday night.

We not only have the pictures to prove it, but also the video of the all-girl band performing its latest classic, “(Don’t Want to Be Like) Everybody Else” from the new CD, “Get Over It.”

It was the band’s network TV premiere, though readers of The Brooklyn Paper have a long history with the pre-teen trio — even going back to the days when guitarist Sophie and drummer Izzy had a boy bassist, Lucio. Now, of course, he’s been replaced with Jena, the eldest member of the group at age 14 (surnames withheld because of the girls’ ages).

After the six-minute version of the song, Letterman chatted with the band, saying, “It was very nice of you girls to come over to check on grandpa.”

If the spot on Letterman isn’t enough for you, the band is playing the Fillmore on Saturday night as part of a Nickelodeon tour with the Naked Brothers Band.

Pretty good for two girls from Brooklyn (Jena is from Manhattan, alas).

Henry Shenk from Park Slope says:
Six minute version? Did Kuntzman actually watch the clip? Care Bears On Fire played for two intense, exciting, tuneful minutes! Is it that Gersh watched the clip three times but didn't notice? Hope your political coverage is more careful than your arts coverage.
