If there’s one tree “worth seeking out on a cold winter’s night” it’s the pretty pine illuminated on Monday outside Borough Hall Plaza, raves Time Out New York.

For once the mag is spot on!

The 40-foot balsam hardwood from Vermont, decked with a carpet of lights, was lit by a firecracker from Brooklyn — Borough President Markowitz who braved the rain alongside an impressive crowd for the fir-tivities, which featured performances by, among others, the Packer Collegiate Chamber Choir with guest appearances by Frosty the Snowman and the fat, jolly man from the North Pole.

“Look!” trilled excited Brownsville visitor Angelique Alexander, 3, to baby sis Angelique, who fired off a sparkling smile as the tree exploded into rays of light — the cool handiwork of 4-year-old Akeelah Freeman, a Bedford-Stuyvesant tot who had the tall honor of flicking the switch that lit the borough’s most important tree.

Free holiday cookies sweetened the pot for the crowd, which gazed at the comely conifer long after the last official was gone.

The timber will twinkle with holiday colors each night through the season.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Downtown, where a tree illumination at Borough Hall Plaza officially kicked off fir-tivities around town.
