Art auction event raises $2K

Almost as soon as the bidding ended, the paintings started coming off the walls at the Arts in Bushwick’s art auction, held last Friday night at Lumenhouse (47 Beaver St).

The benefit previewed Bushwick Open Studios, the three-day community event held every June in Bushwick featuring art, film, music, design, performance and theater from artists living in the community.

“I’m really excited that this is here,” said Matt Brownell, an artist who will be showing drawings and photography at Lumenhouse during BOS next week. “I had a lot of fun at this last year and this year is more involved.”

The donated work ranged between $50 and $200 and about $2,000 was raised at the event. Half the pieces sold in the first twenty minutes. Andrew Ford, Gallery Director at Ad Hoc Art on 49 Bogart Street bid for a painting by Megan Hays.

“The big minimalist one with the chair,” Ford said, pointing towards the painting. “It makes me feel good.”

Arts in Bushwick will take place on June 6, 7, and 8 throughout Bushwick. For more information, visit www.artsinbushwick.org.
