Battle for the $oul of Brooklyn

The New York presidential primary is settled, but the money war rages on between Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Just-released campaign finance filings that cover the second half of 2007 show that Obama made strong inroads into “Hillary Country,” specifically turning Brooklyn Heights, Bay Ridge, Bushwick, Canarsie and Greenpoint from Hillary red to Barack blue.

The Illinois upstart also strengthened his donor support in Park Slope’s 11215 ZIP code — although Clinton took back the neighborhood’s 11217 ZIP (which also covers Boerum Hill), Carroll Gardens and Crown Heights from Obama. Borough-wide, through 2007, Obama raised $599,551 to Clinton’s $726,524.
