Bay Ridge is for lovers

Love is in the Bay Ridge air, and the neighborhood has a romantic weekend in store for you.

Chances are good you won’t get to enjoy bar food on Valentine’s Day. So on Friday, cap off your week with a beer and a brat at Schnitzel Haus (7319 Fifth Ave. between 79th and 80th streets). Pop-rockers Final Cut will play hits from the era of free love to get people in the mood for the most romantic day of the year. The taps are always going, but the music kicks off at 9 pm.

Saturday is the big day. Start off with a glass of vino at the Owl’s Head (479 74th St. between Fourth and Fifth avenues). Once the grappa has your juices flowing, it is time to have that romantic dinner. Valentine’s Day meals are too precarious for even Bay Ridge Nights to hazard a recommendation (we’d get wings from the Kettle Black [8622 Third Ave. between 86th and 87th streets], just sayin’), so we’re going to leave this one up to you and your paramour. The national weather service is forecasting a chilly day for lovers, so we suggest you forget the Saturday night plans and make some heat in the comfort of your home.

But what’s a single guy or gal to do? Take your pick of music — British Invasion apologists London Fogg will play Greenhouse Cafe (7717 Third Ave. between 77th and 78th streets) at 9:30 pm, DJ John Paul Venuto will spin the black circle at Bean Post Pub (7525 Fifth Ave. between Bay Ridge Parkway and 76th Street) at 10 pm, and Radio Daze is playing the Wicked Monk (9510 Third Ave. between 95th and 96th streets) at 11 pm.

And with Valentine’s Day out of the way, you can focus on the holiday that really matters — Mardi Gras is fast approaching! Spend Sunday getting ready for a celebration of excess followed by 40 days pretending Lent doesn’t exist. Buy masks and beads, dust off your accordion and see if the Music Box School [9402 Fort Hamilton Pkwy. at 94th Street] will teach you some Zydeco, cover those photos of Pope Francis — do whatever you have to, because Fat Tuesday is this Tuesday.
