Bed-Stuy shooting leaves teenager wounded: NYPD

A 17-year old boy was shot in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Wednesday morning following a recent slight uptick in violence in the area. 

At approximately 9:14 a.m., officers from the 79th Precinct responded to reports of a shooting on Macon Street and Nostrand Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to his back. The victim was taken by EMS to Health+Hospitals/Kings County in stable condition.

At this time, there have been no arrests in connection with the crime and the investigation remains ongoing.

Bed-Stuy has seen an increase in violent crimes in the past few weeks, with the murder of high-profile murder of local activist and advocate of Ryan Carson occuring Oct. 2. According to NYPD data, the 79th Precinct has seen 10 cases of felony assault from Oct. 9 through Oct. 15 compared to the six reported last year in the same time period, about a 67% increase.
