The shooting came less than one week after a potential gang-related shooting injured four in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Sept. 6.

According to crime statistics, the 81st Precinct has reported nine shootings so far this year with 11 victims. This is a significant decrease from last year where at this time in 2022 there had been 23 shootings with 29 victims.

In December of 2022, a record number of 209 guns were turned in by residents at a Bed-Stuy gun buy-back event organized by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez and then-NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell.
