The borough’s first hospital, the Brooklyn Hospital Center has announced the appointment of a new Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sam Amirfar.

Amirfar initially worked as an attending physician and as Chief Medical Information Officer when he began working at TBHC in 2014 before eventually being promoted to Senior VP and Chief Information Officer.

He was responsible for building, maintaining and securing clinical data throughout TBHC where he oversaw a five-time increase in patients using an Electronic Health Record portal, a 10-fold reduction in report production time as well as an improvement in payment processing times.

All of these accomplishments were made with a 4% decrease in operating budget over a period of five years.

“Given the importance of technology and data analytics in healthcare today, the integration of these two disciplines is becoming more relevant and crucial,” said Gary G. Terrinoni, TBHC’s President and CEO in a statement May 22. “Dr. Amirfar is a proven leader in healthcare technology and is an excellent clinician and out-of-the-box thinker, so we are very excited for his appointment and what he will bring to our focus on patient safety, quality and satisfaction.”
