Buckley’s to Kennedy’s Run

The 28th Annual Buckley’s to Kennedy’s 5K Charity Run is set for May 18 at 10 a.m. The Run, in memory of Joan “Chickie” Murray and Battalion Chief Jimmy Savastano, will begin and end in Riis Park, on the Queens side of the Marine Parkway Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge.

All proceeds benefit HeartShare Human Services of New York and its efforts to provide needed services to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, as well as for other at-risk children adults and families.

Following the run is the Family Fun Day Picnic with food, drinks, games, awards, pee-wee races, and live entertainment. This year, The Highland Rover Band and Motion Music Entertainment will keep you moving all afternoon. Admission is free for all runners, and open to the public for a small fee ($10 for food and drink, $15 with a T-shirt, children under 12 free); this fun begins at 11 a.m. and is not to be missed.

The registration fee for adult runners 19 and older is $20, and for youth runners 18 and under is $10. This fee is waived for any adult runner with sponsorships of $50 or more or any youth with $25 or more. Additionally, the youth with the most sponsorship donations will receive a PS3 Game Winner and the runner-up will receive an iPod.

This event is a great way to start off the summer, see old friends, and make new ones. You can register online for the Run or Family Fun Day Picnic at www.heartshare.org. For more, call 718-422-3215; to volunteer call 718-422-3283.
