It’s a beloved holiday tradition!

Dozens came out to the Flatbush Reformed Church’s tree-lighting in East Flatbush on Dec. 10.

Folks jammed to popular Christmas melodies, talked to Santa, and had their faces painted. The tree was lit, but the cocoa was the real hit, attendees said.

“Everything was really nice, but we liked the drinks,” said Stephanie Royer, who stumbled upon the event with her young sister. “We got our faces painted but we liked the hot cocoa.”

The sisters enjoyed the hot beverage so much that they almost went for seconds, but they did not want to look too gluttonous, said Royer.

“We were going to go back for seconds but we didn’t want to look too greedy,” she said.

Another local family stayed for a short time — but they did stick around long for the time-honored beverage.

“It was a bit cold, and we didn’t want to stay out too long but they gave us hot cocoa,” said Guillermo Jimenez, who came with his 6-year–old daughter Isabel.
