A teacher at PS 46 was arrested for roughing up a 7-year-old girl inside the Clermont Avenue school on Wednesday.
Police charged Malcom McConnachie, 50, with assault and endangering the welfare of a child — both misdemeanors — following the 11:06 am confrontation inside the school between Park and Myrtle avenues.
Witnesses told police that McConnachie was leading a second grade class when he forcefully grabbed the student by the arm and threw her into a chair. It was unclear what sparked the alleged outburst.
The girl suffered a bruised arm and was taken to Brooklyn Hospital for treatment.
McConnachie spent the night in a holding cell as he waited for a Thursday morning arraignment. Attempts to reach his attorney were unsuccessful.
Department of Education spokeswoman Marge Feinberg said McConnachie has worked at PS 46 for 10 years.
“He’s being reassigned away from the classroom,” she said.
This is the second time in a week that a teacher has left a borough school in handcuffs: Fort Hamilton HS art teacher Sabrina Milo was arrested for making terrorist threats on April 1 after she told a handful of other teachers that she was going to smuggle a rifle into the school and“settle some scores.”
