Cyclones 4
Yankees 2
Friday, July 24, at Staten Island
Starter Mark Cohoon did it again — notching his league-leading sixth win and dropping his ERA to 2.15 with six innings of three-hit ball in the opener of a three-game series against the third-place Yankees.
The Cyclones got on the board first, with Luis Rivera’s leadoff homer in the second.
Sam Honeck, who had been hit by a pitch, scored in the fourth on an error, but in the fifth, the Cyclones broke it open with runs on a Rivera RBI single and a Yankee error — one of five on the night!
The Baby Bombers did score in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run homer off reliever Mike Powers, but it was too little, too late.
The win improved the Cyclones’ league-leading record to 23–11 and kept the lead over the Hudson Valley Renegades at four games.
