Driver allegedly strikes pedestrian in Coney, flees scene, gets arrested

A driver was arrested after he allegedly struck a pedestrian on West 12th Street and Surf Avenue in Coney Island at 2:30 am on June 30 and then fled the scene, according to police.

The driver then allegedly hit a few parked cars before fleeing, according to a witness at the scene. Police arrested him shortly thereafter in Brighton Beach about a mile from the scene on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, vehicular assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, driving while impaired, and reckless driving, according to police.

The pedestrian, who was struck while crossing Surf Avenue, was rushed to Lutheran Hospital in critical condition.
