Units arrived at 5004 Avenue D to smoke billowing from the basement of United Deli just before 5 a.m. FDNY personnel consisting of 12 units and 65 firefighters deployed two hose-lines to knock down the fire, working around a car parked in front of a fire hydrant.
No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze, which was placed under control at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning’s fire took place just blocks from the scene of a fatal fire at 738 East 52 Street on Monday morning.
Both incidents are currently under investigation by the FDNY fire marshal.
