Firefighters doused an all-hands fire at a two-story residential building in East Flatbush on Monday night.
The FDNY responded to reports of a fire at 82 East 55th St. shortly after 8:40 p.m. on Nov. 28, according to the FDNY. Residents escaped the blaze unharmed as units from the 15th Division arrived on the scene to find heavy fire on the first floor of the attached private dwelling. Roughly 60 firefighters used two hose-lines to knock down the main body of the fire and brought the blaze under control by 9:50 p.m.
Firefighters searched the building for trapped residents, but found that everyone had safely evacuated.
The FDNY’s fire marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. According to city records, the apartment building does not have any open violations with the city’s Department of Buildings or Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
The East 55th Street fire ws the second all hands-fire in the East Flatbush neighborhood in the past week. The FDNY battled a blaze at 1828 Nostrand Ave. on Nov. 19.
