Two-slay day
March 8 was a bloody day in Greenpoint, where gun violence took the lives of two victims. Here are the grisly details of the 94th Precinct’s first murders of 2009:
• An embattled former cop killed his girlfriend and wounded her pal in a deadly Engert Avenue shooting, cops said.
Police suspect that Jerry Bowens, a 42-year-old ex-cop who was stripped of his gun after allegedly stealing drugs and cash from an undercover officer posing as a dealer, took his 28-year-old girlfriend’s life at around 4:38 pm in a friend’s apartment near the corner of Eckford Street.
After firing at his love interest, the ex-cop turned the gun on his girlfriend’s pal, shooting her in the head and arm, cops said.
The second victim is in stable condition, and Bowens turned himself in, police said.
• A seemingly random attack claimed the life of a 25-year-old as he sat in a minivan on March 8.
A gunman and an accomplice fired two shots into the passenger side of a Honda Odyssey that was idling on Anthony Street at around 11:20 pm, striking the victim, cops said.
After the shooting, the crooks fled the scene, which was near Porter Avenue.
Supermarket swept
Thieves cut a hole in the roof of the Associated Grocery store on Manhattan Avenue on March 4 and snatched a safe, cops said.
The crooks propped a ladder against the grocery store to get onto the roof between midnight and 7 am. Once atop the building, which is at the corner of Calyer Street, the burglars drilled into the supermarket and heisted a safe from an office, police said.
Diamond thieves
Cops nabbed three thugs who held up a 57-year-old man on Diamond Street on March 7.
The thieves confronted the victim between Driggs and Nassau avenues at around 1:20 am and struck him violently before snatching his wallet — but police say they locked up all three suspects later that day.
Mac attack
A thief cleaned out a Lorimer Street apartment on March 5 — and locked residents of their building while committing the act.
The victim of the burglary noticed a stranger loitering on the stoop of his residence when he stepped out of his apartment at around 2 pm.
Witnesses then spotted the thief enter the building, which is between Conselyea Street and Metropolitan Avenue, and deadbolt the front door.
Once inside, the crook grabbed two Apple computers and fled before 3 pm.
Electro-nixed
Crooks pilfered a Newell Street apartment on March 4 and grabbed as many electronic devices as they could carry.
The thieves got into the apartment between 8:30 am and 3:15 pm and grabbed a camera, a satellite-guided digital mapping device, an iPod, a laptop, and a television from the residence, which is between Nassau and Norman avenues.
The apartment showed no signs of forced entry, cops said.
