It’s a long way from Brooklyn to Antarctica, but then again, there is no earthly distance that can contain the boundless curiosity and energy of Iraida Cabrera.
A 17-year-old senior at the High School of Enterprise, Business, and Technology, part of the Grand Street Campus High Schools located at 850 Grand Street, Cabrera was one of 65 students from around the globe go to Antarctica this past December and January.
They went as part of the Students on Ice program, a student expedition program that encourages hands-on learning and environmental sensitivity through immersion in the Arctic and Antarctic.
Or, as the organization’s website puts it, “Our aim is to
