Brooklyn Tech running back James Gales rushed for three touchdowns and 128 yards as the Engineers decimated host Fort Hamilton 42–0 on Saturday afternoon a win that marked the Fort Greene squad’s second-straight victory.
Gales put the game away in the third quarter when he took a handoff meant for a right-sideline run and shot through a gap his offense opened to his left for a stellar 56-yard score with 9:57 left. The touchdown put his team up 28–0 and erased any hopes Fort Hamilton had for a comeback.
“Nobody was there to stop me,” Gales said. “As soon as I saw that hole, I knew something was going to happen.”
The Engineers scored five out of their six touchdowns on the ground. Quarterback Brandon Schneider opened the game with a 10-yard rushing score. He then added a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kyvaune Brammer, making the score 35–0 with 10:45 left in the fourth. Running back Tristan Brown capped off the scoring with a 28-yard rushing touchdown minutes later, giving his coach a special win.
“I’ve never beaten Fort Hamilton on any level,” Engineers head coach Kyle McKenna said with a smile. “This was definitely a hard-earned win, off years of hard work.”
Victories haven’t come easy for Brooklyn Tech this season. The Engineers fell to Jefferson in its season opener and lost 14–13 in a goal line stand against Kennedy before beating Lehman last week.
Fort Hamilton’s injury-plagued Tigers have yet to get a win: quarterback Adrian Maldonado is still recovering from a concussion he suffered in the opener and running backs Michael Brooks and Isaiah Washington are also recovering from separated collarbones.
The team’s coaching staff fears that the Tigers won’t be able to find its identity without its sidelined players.
“We’re beat up right now,” Fort Hamilton coach Daniel Perez said. “Life sometimes punches you in the mouth, but we have to answer the challenge.”
