he Brooklyn-bound side of the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be closed from the night of Aug. 17 until the morning of Aug. 21 because of continued demolition of the Rockaway Point Boulevard overpass, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Traffic coming into Brooklyn from the Queens beach side community will be detoured to the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge between 11 pm and 5 am nightly. The Q35 bus will maintain its normal route across the bridge with the help of a facility escort. Drivers heading southbound across the bridge will be detoured to the Breezy Point exit and back onto the Beach 169th Street entrance ramp.
Reconstruction of the nearly 50-year old overpass is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving. The $13.9 million project includes a temporary bridge structure.
