Grow-rious! Ditmas Park CSA accepting applications for 2016 season

Veggie-lovers, rejoice — the Ditmas Park Community-Supported Agriculture has opened registration for the 2016 season.

The group is excited to offer the new every-other-week full-share option for the first time as a cost-effective alternative to weekly half-shares for smaller households. Only a limited number of shares are available, and the organization will close its 2016 membership once it reaches that number — or by May 15.

As in previous seasons, farmer Jorge Carmona of Amantai Farmsthe will supply the bountiful produce, including a changing array of seasonal vegetables and melons grown using traditional and sustainable methods. Optional add-ons this season include eggs from Carmona and fruit that Carmona gets from a neighboring farm.

The 20-week season will begin in June and last through October, with pick-up likely at Flatbush-Tompkins Congregational Church on East 19th Street and Dorchester Road.

Full shares picked up weekly will cost $715 not including any add-ons, half shares picked up weekly will cost $480, and full shares picked up every other week will cost $360. An administrative fee of $30 for both full and half shares will be added to all shares to cover the expenses of running the program.

The volunteer-run and community-based Ditmas Park CSA was founded in 2008. Members purchase a share in the season’s harvest — joining the farm in both the risk and the bounty — and recieve produce directly from the farmer at the weekly pickup location.
