Pomp, circumstance and a poignant reflection marked the occasion when borough patriots delivered a tall salute to New York’s military heroes during a troop tribute at Aviator Sports & Recreation, coordinated by the New York State Hockey Players Support Our Troops Campaign.
Hangar 5 at the mega sportsplex, located inside historic Floyd Bennett Field, provided a fitting backdrop to the program of commemoration, which recalled the supreme sacrifices of the 212 New Yorkers, who served with distinction in Afghanistan and Iraq, and were killed in the line of duty.
Guest speakers, a roll call of the deceased and a check presentation in the amount of $25,000 was presented by the campaign to local military families.
The New York State Hockey Players Support Our Troops Campaign is comprised of state hockey organizations, individuals and friends and supporters of New York-based military families, who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
