How to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Brooklyn

Brooklyn is going green! Saint Patrick’s Day has come back around, and the Irish population of Brooklyn should have plenty of options for celebrations around the borough. From parades to drink offers to cover bands, Kings County has something to offer for everyone, whether you’re Irish or just Irish for the day.

Park Slope parade

A time-honored tradition dating back to 1975 returns this year after two years away. Revelers will begin at the Holy Name of Jesus Church at 10:30 am on March 20 for a mass and will proceed to Prospect Park, where the 45th annual parade will begin in earnest at 12:30 pm.

Bay Ridge parade

Southern Brooklynites will get a chance at a parade of their own one week later when the 27th annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at the corner of Marine and Third avenues. A church service at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church will lead into the beginning of the party, which formally starts at 1 pm.

Whiskey tastings across Brooklyn

Come try a variety of Irish Whiskey in Honor of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, at Cocoon’s Bushwick offices. Free for members and $10 for non-members. There’s also this St. Patrick’s Day distillery tour with a complimentary whiskey flight at Kings County Distillery near the Brooklyn Navy Yard (happening both Wednesday and Thursday from 7-8 pm).

Sha-Doobie rocks the Lief Bar

If you’re looking for something to do on the evening of the holiday, Bay Ridge’s Lief Bar has a unique solution. Sha-Doobie, a Rolling Stones tribute band, will be performing at 7 pm onwards for Saint Paddy’s Day while guests can enjoy the bar’s amenities until 4 am.

Time Out Market’s “Lucky Charm”

DUMBO will have a St. Paddy’s Day party of its own on Thursday at the Time Out Market. Offering $8 beers and their signature drink called “The Lucky Charm,” the Market will be open from 11 am to 10 pm. They’ll also be featuring entertainment from the Brooklyn Dance Company from 5-8 pm.

Craft with your kids on St. Paddy’s eve

Stop by the Leonard Library in Williamsburg to pick up a grab-and-go craft kit courtesy of the Brooklyn Public Library. Within this St. Patrick’s Day themed kit is everything kiddos need to make their own lucky shamrock. Kids include pre-cut foam clovers, green construction paper to make your own leaf, and green yarn to hang it or use any way you want to. Kits are available in the lobby starting Wednesday, and will be there for the taking while supplies last.
