Thousands of Wilco fans stuffed McCarren Park Pool (Lorimer Street between Driggs Avenue and Bayard Street) last Wednesday, singing along to the lead singer Jeff Tweedy’s renditions of songs that stretched the band’s entire repertoire.
In the upper deck of the pool, behind the throngs, the Open Spaces Alliance held a benefit for its organization, which supports park and recreational space in North Brooklyn.
Assemblymember Joseph Lentol, City Council candidates Evan Thies and Steve Levin and several OSA Board Members sampled Green Point wines while examining architectural plans of the proposed McCarren Pool and Bushwick Inlet parks.
As Jeff Tweedy might put it, maybe all McCarren Park Pool needs is a shot in the arm, and after this summer, the community has gotten it.
