Garage break-in
A brigand broke into a car in a parking lot on Avenue U on March 5.
The vehicle’s owner told police that he left his vehicle in the lot near E. 57th Street around 1 pm and returned at 2:10 pm to discover the front passenger-side window broken. Items left inside the car — including a wallet with credit and debit cards, a handbag, and a uniform — were missing, according to police. Cops said thief charged $100 to one of the credit cards before the victim could cancel it.
Tear-in headlights
A sneak thief removed the headlights from a car parked on Bergen Avenue on March 4.
The owner told cops that he left his vehicle near Royce Street around 2 am and came back later that morning to find his headlights were missing, according to police.
Double trouble
Some fraudster tried to return $1,000 in stolen items for payment at an Avenue U home improvement store on March 2.
An employee at the store near E. 55th Street said the repeat trickster attempted to return the goods in exchange for gift cards around 2 pm, and was recognized for doing the same crime in February.
Cops said the suspect was recorded on video surveillance and identified but has not yet been arrested, according to the report.
Counterfeit haul
A noogoodnik cashed several fraudulent checks from a Barlow Drive South business between Jan. 28 and March 2.
The victim, whose business is near Indiana Walk, told police that on March 2 around 4:25 pm she noticed that someone had cashed an unknown amount of counterfeit checks using her business account, according to the report. Cops said the fraudster got away with $9,000.
