A Bed-Stuy man will spend 18 years in prison for fatally shooting the host of a house party in 2020.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, Ahmed Morrison — then 18 years old — attended a Bed-Stuy party hosted by 48-year-old Kenny Mark on Feb. 6, 2020. Morrison and a friend, Unique Howell, left the gathering and returned to the apartment hours later wearing ski masks and wielding firearms.
They broke into Mark’s unit, where several guests were still playing dice on a pool table, robbed one person of their wallet, and held others at gunpoint while they tried to swipe cash from the pool table. When Mark struggled against the robbers, he was shot twice — once in the abdomen and once in the chest.
Morrison and Howell fled the scene in Morris’ mother’s vehicle. Police found the car — with a summons bearing Morrison’s name — a few days later, and arrested him on May 2, 2020.
Mark was brought to NYC Health+Hospital/Kings County, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The defendant, now 22 years old, was charged with murder, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon, and pleaded not guilty on all charges. On Sept. 24, 2024, he accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to manslaughter, accepting the 18-year sentence and five years of probation. Howell pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February and was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
“This defendant’s actions demonstrate the callousness and disregard for life that too often accompanies gun violence, and today’s sentence sends a strong message that those who terrorize our communities will be held fully accountable,” Gonzalez said. “My office will continue to pursue justice for every victim and family shattered by senseless acts of gun violence, and we remain steadfast in our resolve to keep Brooklyn safe.”
Morrison has been arrested twice since the 2020 killing, according to court documents. He was cuffed once in April 2023 on charges of possession of contraband in prison and criminal possession of a weapon, and again later that same year, while he was detained at Rikers Island, after he and three other men allegedly assaulted another inmate.
According to the Bronx District Attorney’s office, during the second incident, Morrison and the other defendants surrounded the victim, grabbed him, and repeatedly slashed and stabbed him – leaving him seriously injured. In that case, Morrison is charged with intention to kill, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and possessing a weapon in a corrections facility. Per court documents, he is expected to appear in Bronx Supreme Court on Nov. 12.
