Tears marked the occasion as the faithful hailed the birth of the Land of Milk and Honey, and recalled the sacrifices of the Holocaust’s dead, with a joint tribute at the Manhattan Beach Jewish Center.
A Yom Hashoah observance commemorated Hitler’s horrors and a Yom Hazikaron celebrated the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, drawing survivors and their kin to the synagogue, 60 West End Avenue for a program of worship and remembrance.
Dr. Abraham Edelheit, a professor of History at Kingsborough Community College, 2001 Oriental Boulevard, delivered a talk, entitled, “From the Depths of the Holocaust to the Birth of the State of Israel.”
Performer Yaakov Diamond added another dimension with drama and music.
A candle-lighting ceremony hailed the memories of the deceased.
