The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge is undergoing an upgrade and will be closed to traffic in both directions from Friday night to Saturday evening, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The Brooklyn-Queens connector over the Rockaway Inlet will be closed from 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, to approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. for the replacement of the 87-year-old roadway’s deck panels.

Motorists looking to travel between southern Brooklyn and the Rockaways can take the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge, the agency said, and the Q35 bus will also be rerouted over the Cross Bay as an alternate route to the Rockaway Peninsula. The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge was first opened in 1937 and is busiest during the summer months as New Yorkers and tourists flock to the beaches in Brooklyn and Queens. In 1978, the span was named in honor of the legendary Brooklyn Dodgers player and eventual Mets manager Gil Hodges
