After a two-week trial period, City Hall’s open streets dining initiative is expanding to more Brooklyn thoroughfares, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Friday.
The program will be extended through the end of October, and more streets that were not originally part of the program will be opened, according to the mayor.
“Open restaurants has given New Yorkers more than just a meal away from home,” de Blasio said. “It has given our city a sign that better times are ahead.
The Brooklyn streets added to the program include:
- Graham Avenue between Conselyea Street and Skillman Avenue in Williamsburg
- Fifth Avenue between 40th and 41st Street in Sunset Park
- Fifth Avenue between President Street and Third Street, and between 10th Street and 13th Street in Park Slope.
The program is only in effect on weekends – from 5 pm to 11pm on Fridays, and from noon to 11 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
“The DOT Open Streets restaurant program will throw a lifeline to small businesses that are fighting for survival,” said Fifth Avenue Sunset Park BID Director David Estrada. “We stand ready to support this and other creative solutions that promote public health and commerce.”
