To The Editor:
I have lived in Brooklyn for most of my adult life and can not imagine living anywhere else. Brooklyn has been a great gift to me in that it provides a quality of life that is hard to find elsewhere.
Every once in a while, I like to stop and take stock of the elements that make life here so special.
The first thing that comes to mind is the small shop owners who go out of their way to serve their customers. I would like to publicly thank Charles and Steven of Brook’s Appliance Store, established in 1987 and located at 387 Seventh Avenue in Park Slope, for their valuable assistance when I recently purchased a badly-needed vacuum cleaner from them.
They were tireless in their willingness to answer questions for me and to research details about the products that I needed. Their knowledge about their product lines is extraordinary and this is very important because the items that they carry relate profoundly to the customer’s health and well being.
They were able to make recommendations that helped me purchase a machine suitable to my allergy problems, and I am very grateful.
There was nobody in any of the large stores that I visited who came close to their knowledge of the various products in the industry, and there was nobody who wanted to take the time to answer my questions. They always answer the phones in the most cheerful manner and never rush you when you need information, or an explanation.
Best of all is that their prices are reasonable and competitive, and their service really hard to match.
Please note that I have no business relationship with Steven and Charles other than that of a very satisfied customer. When I need any small appliance, I will go to them first.
I am writing because I truly believe that for all of us who love Brooklyn, the best way to keep it as a really special place is to thank all of those people who make our borough great. If we want those many special businesses to be here for us and we let everyone know just how much we appreciate them, then Brooklyn will continue to be a really ‘one of a kind’ place to live.
