A teenaged Tesla driver allegedly fatally struck a 76-year-old pedestrian and injured another in a high-speed accident on Ocean Parkway on June 7.
According to the NYPD, cops received reports of a serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Avenue M shortly after 9 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, officers and first responders discovered a male pedestrian with severe head and torso trauma laying on the ground.
Emergency responders transported the victim, Old Westbury resident Rajacic Milorad, to Maimonides Medical Center, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Upon further investigation by NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Inspection Squad, it was determined that a 17-year-old driver in a 2021 Tesla had been traveling northbound on Ocean Parkway at an extremely high speed, and lost control of the car.
The teen then mounted the sidewalk located at the northeast corner of the Ocean Parkway and Avenue M, where he fatally struck Milorad.
The Tesla driver did not stop after hitting Milorad, but kept driving — subsequently hitting a Department of Transportation traffic signal pole, a parked motorcycle, and a bench in a road median. He then struck a 24-year-old male victim, who sustained minor leg injuries and was also transported to Maimonides Medical Center.
Police arrested the teen, who was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. The investigation is ongoing.
The incident was the most recent of several serious traffic collisions and injuries along the Ocean Parkway. On Dec. 28, 2022 a motorcyclist was seriously injured at the same intersection where Milorad died on Wednesday.
