Assaults on the NYPD
Cops in Coney Island had a difficult time defending themselves against two allegedly unhinged residents last week.
Officials said that a simple response to a disorderly male on West 28th Street near Surf Avenue ended up with a trip to the motor pool.
The officers told prosecutors that when they arrived at the scene at 1:10 a.m. on January 26, they found 21-year-old Viktor Kolodiy allegedly yelling and screaming on the sidewalk, frightening other pedestrians.
The cops tried to calm him down, but the outraged Kolodiy wouldn’t calm down, police alleged. Instead, he allegedly lashed out and ripped the side view mirror off of the police officers’ car.
In a separate incident, cops arrested 34-year-old Jose Escuebal following a violent altercation with authorities.
According to prosecutors, Escuebal allegedly punched one of the cops repeatedly in the face when they approached him on Oceanview Avenue near Brighton 6th Street at 12:20 a.m. on January 25. It was unclear why the cops had stopped Escuebal as this paper went to press.
Cops charged Kolodiy with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Escuebal was charged with assault, menacing and harassment.
Texting troubles
A 15-year-old was robbed of his cell phone as he texted the afternoon away last week.
The victim said that he was corresponding with a friend as he made his way down 82nd Street near 15th Avenue at 3:40 p.m. on January 22 when two older teens crept up behind him.
The thugs punched the victim in the head until he gave up his property, officials said.
Cops were looking for the two teens, described only as black males, as this paper went to press.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to come forward.

Bag-tugger busted
A 61-year-old man found himself fending off three thieves hell-bent on getting his knapsack during a surprise attack at a Sheepshead Bay corner last week.
Police from the 61st Precinct said that they have arrested the three thieves allegedly responsible for the January 19 mugging.
The victim said that he was nearing the corner of Avenue Z and East 27th Street at 4:35 a.m. when three teenagers ran up and grabbed his bag.
The thieves tried to yank the bag away from him, but the senior held his ground, refusing to let go.
Police said that the victim only let go after one of the teens punched him in the face, leaving him with a cut cheek.
The thieves ran off toward Nostrand Avenue, but were soon apprehended by responding officers.
The teens, identified as 18-year-old Anthony Eaton, a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were all charged with robbery.
The dangers of cable
There are 5700 channels, but not one they could apparently agree on.
A woman was stabbed in the shoulder by her roommate during a dispute over the cable TV they shared, police said this week.
The two woman, age 28 and 36, were arguing inside the apartment on Batchelder Street in the Sheepshead/Nostrand Houses at 12:30 p.m. on January 23 when their heated debate turned violent.
During the ensuing struggle, the 28-year-old woman shattered a glass, picked up a sharp piece of glass and threatened to stop the older woman with it.
But that was only half-time. When the fight resumed, the 28-year-old did exactly what she threatened to do and jammed the glass into the older woman’s shoulder. She also cut the woman’s right foot, officials said.
Responding officers took the wounded woman to Coney Island Hospital for treatment. The attacker was still at large as this paper went to press.
Cabbie conundrum
A livery cab driver lost his wheels as he tried to chase one of two men who held him up in Bensonhurst last week.
The victim said that he was dispatched to 79th Street near 17th Avenue at 1:20 a.m. on January 19 when two teenage males jumped into his car.
The teens asked him if he could drive them around the corner.
Once he did so, the duo threatened to stab him if he didn’t hand over his money.
The thieves took the cabbie’s property, but soon had a fight on their hands when he decided to take back what was his.
One of the thieves bolted from the car. When the cabbie jumped out of the car and gave chase, the thief’s partner got behind the wheel and sped off with his 1998 Dodge Caravan.
Police said that they apprehended one of the two alleged thieves, who they identified as 17-year-old Amer Abdelrahman.
The second thief was still at large as this paper went to press.
More cabbie concerns
A day before the above incident, a second cabbie was robbed at knifepoint, officials said.
The 63-year-old driver told police that his base informed him about a pick-up on 15th Avenue near 79th Street.
When he arrived near the corner, a 22-year-old white male jumped into the car.
A second later, the thief had cut the wire to the cabbie’s radio and had placed a knife to his neck, demanding that he hand over his property.
Police were told that the thief robbed the victim of $700 and a cell phone before running off on foot.
Cops were looking for the thief as this paper went to press.
B.B. bruiser
Cops are looking for the 18-year-old man responsible for attacking a lady friend with his both his fists and a B.B. gun.
The victim, a 26-year-old resident of Allen Avenue in Gerritsen Beach, told police that she and the suspect were arguing inside her apartment at 7 a.m. on January 25 when the bruiser punched her in the nose.
He then grabbed her, threw her to the ground and shot her with a B.B. gun he was carrying with him.
The pellet struck the woman on her right side near her pelvic bone, officials said.
Police said that the man fled the scene, leaving the bruised and battered woman behind.
Cops were still looking for the thief as this paper went to press.
