As the midway point approaches the girls of the PSAL softball circuit, there is still no clear-cut front runner for the title of the division’s best team. Although a supreme powerhouse of Madison (10-1) owns the division’s best record but Lincoln (9-2) and New Utrecht (5-4) both feel that they still have a fighting chance to claim the division championship. With half of the marathon in the books, there is one more half and a postseason before the league can crown a champion. All statistics in this article are of press time.
Madison Knights (10-1)- Coming into Spring Training, Madison was the best team on paper, and they have continued to prove that they’re the team to beat. There is no doubt that the lady Knights dislike playing the full seven innings since they have blown out opponents eight times in 11 games. But that is thanks to their dominant pitching of ace Marie Oneto and “1A” hurler Kayla Hill.
Oneto (5-0) owns a zero E.R.A. in 26 frames pitched while sitting down 51 opposing batters. Her counterpart, Hill (5-1), who is only a freshman and a rising star in the rotation, has been devastating by boasting the same one E.R.A. while striking out 41 hitters. Hill’s only loss was the team’s lone defeat at the hands of their arch rivals Tottenville, 5-1, on April 12.
