Sandy DiTrapani: BWEC’s Man of the Year

“Sandy DiTrapani began his career as a math teacher at JHS 263 in District 23, and received the Distinguished Teacher’s Award in June 1987.He worked diligently as the Dean of Students for many years, earning the respect of the students, parents and colleagues for being fair and honest.

In September 1991, Sandy began working in District 21 as a math teacher at Boody Junior High School. After only a few months at Boody, he was selected to be one of the founding teachers of District 21’s Project Adapt. As time progressed Sandy went from Project Adapt to IS 303 as a SIG teacher, where he instituted the specialized high school preparatory program. This successful program produced more student acceptances to the three specialized high schools than in previous years. He was especially happy that those students were accepted into Stuyvesant High School, Bronx School of Science, and his alma-mater, Brooklyn Technical High School.

In 1999 Sandy was appointed Assistant Principal at PS 177. He constantly refers to PS177 as a school with an abundance of energy that truly cares for children. He is proud of the enthusiasm and desire to succeed that is shared by students and staff alike.During his tenure at PS 177, he became actively involved in Council for Unity, the YMCA and the Boy Scouts of America.Presently he serves on the board for the YMCA and was honored by the Boy Scouts Association in 2005.Sandy was also honored by the Shorefront Hospice in 2000.Sandy is currently the President of the Association of Assistant Principals and serves as the CSA Chair of District 21.He is also on their Executive Board, their Advisory board and has served on numerous committees.
